FUE vs FUT: Which Hair Restoration Technique Is Best?
The loss of your hair can have a considerable impact on your self-esteem. Thinning hair and bald spots can make you appear older than you are and keep you from participating in social activities. Many over-the-counter products claim to help regrow your hair, but they are only a temporary solution. Luckily, Dr. Tchelebi performs follicular unit extraction (FUE) using the NeoGraft® machine to restore a naturally fuller head of hair with minimal discomfort.
What Is FUT?
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is a surgical procedure that removes a strip of scalp from the back of the head and moves it forward to areas where the hair is thinning. This approach does work but can leave the patient with a linear scar in the donor site, and the outcome may not seem as natural.
How Does NeoGraft® Work?
The NeoGraft® machine is an automated hair follicle harvesting device. Once the donor area has been identified, the instrument uses suction to harvest the hair follicles. The follicles are then separated into units and prepared for transplantation. The treatment site is numbed for your comfort, and then the NeoGraft® machine is used to insert the donor follicles. This process allows for a higher number of successful transplants and a more natural-looking hairline. FUE also involves a shorter recovery, with patients able to return to their normal activities within a few days.
Once the hair has been transplanted, it can take a few weeks for the final results to develop. The follicles will take root in seven to ten days, after which the hair will continue its normal growth cycle.
How Long Will My Results Last?
Most patients experience long-lasting results. However, if you are experiencing progressive hair loss, you may need to undergo multiple transplants. Dr. Tchelebi will discuss your procedure plan with you during your consultation.
Are There Other Hair Restoration Treatments Available?
At Park Avenue Medical Spa in Armonk, NY, we offer PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair restoration. This treatment utilizes growth factors that are taken from a sample of your own blood. The blood is spun using a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells. The PRP is then injected into the scalp. PRP hair restoration is an effective way to improve the thickness and density of thinning hair.
We also offer the HairMax® Ultima 12 LaserComb and recommend that hair transplant patients begin using it as soon as possible after the procedure. This low-level laser device has been proven to provide improvement in hair density in as little as eight weeks. It can also help ensure a more successful hair transplant and minimize post-treatment shedding.
