5 Facts and Myths About CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting® is the most popular non-invasive fat reduction treatment on the market. Over six million treatments have been performed worldwide, and the before and after images show incredible results. However, as with any popular procedure, there are plenty of myths or misconceptions out there. In this blog, we will break down some of the biggest myths about CoolSculpting® and give you the facts instead.

#1) CoolSculpting® Can Help You Lose Weight

CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss treatment. The best candidates for CoolSculpting® are near their ideal weight but are struggling with pockets of fat that aren’t affected by diet and exercise. Many fit, healthy people still have fatty deposits in areas like the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, and under the chin.

#2) CoolSculpting® Can Tighten Skin

While CoolSculpting® is a great way to get rid of excess fat deposits, it cannot tighten skin. If fat deposits stretch the skin enough, it will sag when the fat is eliminated. However, there are treatments that can be performed once CoolSculpting® is complete. Radiofrequency therapies, such as Venus Legacy™ or Forma™, can tighten skin without the need for surgery.

#3) CoolSculpting® Provides Instant Results

Some patients have reported that they noticed a slight difference in their appearance immediately after treatment, but this is not how CoolSculpting® usually works. Once the fat cells in the treatment area have been frozen, they rupture and die. Your body then begins the process of eliminating the dead cells. This process occurs over four to eight weeks, so you’ll have to wait to see your final results.

#4) CoolSculpting® Is Painful

CoolSculpting® is not a painful treatment. In fact, many patients spend their treatment sessions relaxing or even catching up on work! You may feel some slight discomfort as the machine draws in your fat roll using suction. This feeling will resolve quickly once the controlled cooling begins.

#5) CoolSculpting® Can Harm Your Skin

The controlled cooling technology used in CoolSculpting® does not affect skin cells. Fat freezes at a higher temperature than water, and skin cells are made up of mostly water. A gel pad is also applied to your skin before treatment to add an extra layer of protection. Only your fat cells will be affected by your treatment.

There are many reasons that CoolSculpting® has become so popular. It is non-surgical, non-invasive, and requires no downtime. Treatment is quick, and then you can go about the rest of your day.
