Which Fillers Are Best for My Cosmetic Needs?

As time passes, you may notice changes in the appearance of your face. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to form, and the loss of volume can cause sagging or a hollow look. Injectable dermal fillers are a great way to address these concerns without surgery, but it can be challenging to figure out which one will work best for you. Read on to learn about the differences between fillers.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Most dermal fillers are made of a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid (HA). You may recognize this name as HA is used in many skin creams and serums. Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced by the body that helps keep the skin plump and hydrated. Injectable fillers are used to temporarily add volume to targeted regions of the face to provide a more youthful aesthetic.

Some fillers, such as Bellafill® and Sculptra® Aesthetic, are composed of other substances. Bellafill® is made up of microspheres of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) suspended in a collagen gel. The collagen gel adds volume immediately, and the PMMA microspheres act as a framework for the body to build collagen around over time.

Sculptra® Aesthetic uses microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid that are injected into the deeper layers of the dermis to stimulate collagen production.

Deep Creases

There are a few different fillers that can help correct deep wrinkles and creases on the face, depending on the treatment area. Nasolabial folds (lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin) can be treated using JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, JUVÉDERM® XC, Bellafill®, Restylane® Lyft™, Restylane® Refyne™, and Sculptra® Aesthetic.

Enhance Your Pout

Naturally thin lips or lips that have lost volume due to age can be augmented using fillers such as Restylane®, Restylane® Silk, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC. These products can give you fuller, plumper lips, and improved definition for the perfect pout.

Lift Your Cheeks

Your cheeks can lose youthful fat over time, leading to a sagging, hollow appearance. Products like JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC and Restylane® Lyft™ can be injected into the cheeks to add volume and lift the tissues, restoring a younger, fresher look.

What About Other Concerns?

If you have fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, between the brows, or on the forehead, fillers may not be the best choice. Neurotoxins, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, are a better option for these concerns. Neurotoxins are derived from botulinum toxin A and are used to temporarily immobilize tiny muscles in the face. These muscles contract when you make facial expressions and cause the overlying skin to fold and crease. When the muscles are relaxed, the creases in the skin smooth out.

Injectable treatments can last for three months or up to five years, depending on the formulation used. Dr. Tchelebi can develop a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your ideal aesthetic appearance. Artful injection into different areas of the face can provide subtle improvements or dramatic enhancements, depending on your desires.
